What has been collected for Amersfoort over the past 25 years?

In this colorful and surprising exhibition, you'll see the most beautiful, unique, and striking acquisitions that Museum Flehite has added to its collection since 2000.

Curator Onno Maurer selected his favorites: paintings, sculptures, and other artworks that all tell something about Amersfoort and its artists.

You can also discover the stories and anecdotes about how these works found their – sometimes extraordinary – way to the museum.

Collection Stories: 2000 - 2025 can be admired at Museum Flehite in Amersfoort from November 8, 2025, to January 25, 2026.

The exhibition consists of eight themes, each showcasing a different aspect of what the museum has collected over the past quarter-century. Together, they form a single story about Amersfoort and its artists. You'll see how famous names like Mathias Withoos, Caspar van Wittel, and Engelbert L'Hoëst have their roots in the city. The beloved still life—with flowers or fruit—is also extensively featured, as are the work of painter/preacher Jakob Nieweg and the recurring theme of trees in art.

There's space for contemporary art, collectors like the Van Schaiks, and objects from the collection of the Flehite Historical Society.

"Collect Stories" is an exhibition for everyone: for Amersfoort residents, art lovers, pupils, students, and museum enthusiasts.

Fun for all ages

"Collect Stories" is fun for all ages. Every Tuesday, there's a special tour for adults. Children can explore the exhibition daily and then get creative themselves. In a paper mini-museum, they can build their own exhibition or create their own little painting to complement the art in the museum.

During the Christmas holidays, we'll close out the year with fun children's and family workshops, entirely dedicated to Christmas. Will you join us?
