From a hand-weaving mill for bath towels to the opening of one of the first galleries in the Netherlands. That is the story of the Kapelhuis.
Around the year 1960, Hyke Koopmans and Margje Blitterswijk have their own hand-weaving mill where they make bath towels and table linen for the Bijenkorf and Metz & Co. In the same period, they decide to shift their focus to a wider range of hand-made objects. From textiles to jewelry and from ceramics to design. The Kapelhuis becomes the place where they exhibit and resell everything, making this place in Amersfoort one of the first galleries in our country.
We owe this exhibition to a donation of 21 pieces of ceramics by ceramist Hans de Jong and his partner Willem Kulsdom. The exhibition has been supplemented with ceramics that were previously acquired by the museum.
This exhibition can now be seen in Museum Flehite.
